Pick ChatGPT Plus if…
you use ChatGPT daily but rarely run out — unlimited text chats and 10 Deep Research runs a month are plenty for most work.
Plus is the default paid plan. Pro comes in two tiers that multiply Plus usage and unlock the newest models — and OpenAI changed the top tier's allowance at DevDay on September 29, 2026.
Stay on Plus ($20/mo): it has unlimited text chats and covers most people. Move to Pro ($100–200/mo) only if you keep hitting Plus limits in Codex or Deep Research, or need GPT-6 Astra.

you live in Codex or Deep Research, want GPT-6 Astra and Operator, or need priority access during busy periods.
Since DevDay, the top Pro tier costs twice the lower one and gives twice the usage (10× vs 5× Plus) for new subscribers — the old 20× allowance only survives for people subscribed Sep 22–29, and only until Oct 29, 2026. New top-tier subscribers also get a weekly GPT-6 Astra cap of 100 messages, down from 200. Unless you need 250 Deep Research runs or Operator, start on the lower tier.
The lower Pro tier gives 5× Plus usage and about 50 Deep Research runs a month. The top tier gives 10× Plus usage for new subscribers (it was 20× before September 29, 2026) and 250 Deep Research runs.
No — GPT-6 Astra is listed for Pro only. Plus subscribers do get GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna inside ChatGPT Work and Codex.
A tier above Pro launched at DevDay ($500/mo): 25× Plus usage and Astra Ultrafast inference, up to 8× faster in Codex. It only makes sense for heavy Codex users.
