Pick Midjourney if…
the image itself is the product — art, illustration, moodboards — and you won't need precise text or exact edits.
The deciding question is whether your images need words in them. Midjourney is the reference for look and feel; Ideogram exists to render text — logos, posters, memes — that you can actually read.
Pick Midjourney ($10/mo) for concept art, illustration and moodboards where style matters most. Pick Ideogram ($20/mo) for anything with readable text in the image, and because it lets you try it free first.

Midjourney Basic ($10/mo) is the cheapest paid plan of the two, at about 200 images a month. Ideogram Plus is $20/mo for 1,000 priority credits, though credit cost varies a lot by model.
