The real question is which one to use for a given job. NotebookLM answers only from sources you upload. Since October 9, 2026, the free Gemini app only runs the entry-level Flash-Lite model, which makes NotebookLM's free plan of 50 daily queries over your own sources the more useful free option for document work. If you upgrade, start with AI Plus: it lifts both products. Gemini 4 Argon, Deep Research and 20 daily Audio Overviews need AI Pro.
